A parallel chain is a separate blockchain that runs independently of Vine and is connected to Vine Mainnet by a two-way bridge.
The parallel chain can have independent block parameters, often designed to process transactions efficiently. However, the parallel chain will have the same consensus algorithm as Vine. Using a parallel chain involves trade-offs, though, as they do not inherit Vine's security properties. While a parallel chain may share some surface-level similarities with Vine, it has several distinctive features.
Unlike layer 2 scaling solutions, parallel chains do not post state changes and transaction data back to Vine Mainnet. There can be ānā number of Parallel chains in the Vine ecosystem, each having their unique use case to serve their respective potential audience.
These are distributed ledgers that operate independently and in a parallel capacity to the Vine mainnet. Nodes within a parallel chain network are responsible for confirming & processing transactions, writing transactions to blocks, and maintaining consensus across the network. Security is the responsibility of each parallel chain; it is not directly inherited from Vine.
